  • WHAT HAPPENED?

    The Florida club beat the Mexican giants on penalties following a 2-2 draw in a friendly in Las Vegas, with Messi heading in an equaliser in the first half.

  • THE BIGGER PICTURE

    During the the first half, the 37-year-old was taunted by the Club America supporters and the Argentine responded by holding up three fingers and then a zero, referencing how many times his country have won the World Cup compared to Mexico.

    The preseason clash was Inter's first under new coach Javier Mascherano, who was appointed as Gerardo Martino's replacement in November. He coached Argentina at the 2024 Olympics in Paris, where they lost to France in the quarter-finals.
