Arsenal took command of their Champions League quarter-final against the defending champions with a thumping victory at the Emirates on Tuesday. Much of the pre-match talk was about how the Gunners were going to handle the prolific Mbappe, especially without first-choice centre-back Gabriel. But backup option Kiwior more than held his own against the Frenchman, something Arsenal supporters were quick to point out on social media.

Arsenal are in a very strong position to reach their first Champions League semi-final since 2009. Declan Rice's stunning free-kick double and Mikel Merino's crisp finish mean Madrid need a crushing victory in Spain to have any chance of retaining their title.

Mikel Arteta's Arsenal return to Premier League action on Saturday at home to London neighbours Brentford before heading to Madrid for the second leg of this Champions League quarter-final next Wednesday.
