Wrexham have announced that McClean has signed a new two-year contract at the SToK Cae Ras, in what has been a surprise development for the club owned by Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney. The 35-year-old signed for the club last year, and had his contract automatically extended by one year after Wrexham's promotion to League One. Now, he has agreed to fresh terms that will see him remain with the Red Dragons through to 2026.

  • THE BIGGER PICTURE

McClean was a productive member of the squad last season in League Two, as he scored four goals and provided 13 assists. Amazingly, he was also shown 15 yellow cards in all competitions, but the Irishman's disciplinary record hasn't dissuaded Wrexham from retaining his services for the foreseeable future.

    WHAT MCCLEAN SAID

McClean told Wrexham's website: “I’m obviously delighted. Since I’ve been here, I’ve really enjoyed it and to be given the opportunity to continue that for another two seasons is something I’m really looking forward to. It’s been successful so far and hopefully there’s more success to come over the next two seasons.”

Manager Phil Parkinson added: “We’re pleased James has signed a new contract. He was excellent for us last season, and we’re looking forward to continuing to work with him.”
