'I don't know what his thing is' - Jadon Sancho ripped to shreds as Jamie Carragher claims Man Utd outcast doesn't have 'much ability'

Sancho will look to revive his career under Unai Emery at Villa this season, with his United contract set to expire next summer - though the club does still hold a one-year extension option. Former Liverpool star turned pundit Carragher has now raised question marks over Sancho's quality, claiming he does not offer any substantial value on the pitch. 

In the latest episode of The Overlap Fan Debate, brought to you by Sky Bet, the Reds legend said: "It’s funny with Jadon Sancho. Back when he was at Borussia Dortmund, Gary Neville and I were on a show where we had to pick an England squad. We hadn’t seen too much of him – he was doing well in the Champions League, but we left him out. Everyone on social media was saying, ‘How can you not pick Sancho?’

"I’m still not sure there’s that much ability there. He’s okay, but I don’t really see what his standout quality is. With Marcus Rashford, even though I’ve criticised him, I can picture his pace, his shooting, his free kicks, the power he puts into the ball. With Sancho, I just don’t know what his thing is – I can’t picture it in my head."

Sancho has moved to the Midlands in a deal which will see Villa cover 80 per cent of his salary. The Villans had to balance Financial Fair Play restrictions through the summer, making this structured loan move a favourable deal for the team. However, an obligation to make the transfer permanent next summer has not been included in the agreement. 

The English winger will hope to play his first competitive game of the 2025-26 campaign and make his Aston Villa debut when they come up against Everton in the Premier League on Saturday.
