Lecce were just seconds away from registering a historic win over giants AC Milan on Sunday in the Serie A as Roberto Piccoli found the back of the net with a brilliant strike in the final few seconds of the match. Unfortunately for the minnows, the goal was ruled out after a VAR check which meant that they had to share spoils with Rossoneri.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Lecce made a brilliant comeback in the match after going two-goal down in the first. After Olivier Giroud and Tijjani Reijnders netted for the away side, Nicola Sansone and Lameck Banda brought I Giallorossi back into the game by the 70th minute.

  • WHAT DID SAVERIO STICCHI DAMIANI SAY

A furious Damiani told reporters after the game: "A fairy tale that we had built with so much effort ruined by a use of VAR that is becoming diabolical. If you want to split hairs, you have to do it not only against Lecce but also against the other teams. “No AC Milan player complained about the foul. It will mean that every time Lecce concedes a goal we will look for any pest to show it to the VAR. There is always a pest. You're taking a direction where if you want to look for the smallest detail, you'll find it. This club plays football for passion, not for business, with 30 thousand enthusiastic fans at the stadium. Thus we risk ruining the beauty of sport."
