Inter Miami's Sergio Busquets to be honored as he nears retirement, celebrating a 17-year professional career

Inter Miami confirmed Wednesday that a special ceremony will take place following the match, one of Busquets’ final regular-season appearances at Chase Stadium. He announced his retirement last week, bringing to a close a 17-year professional career that began at Barcelona and has spanned two continents.

The club expects Busquets to be surrounded by teammates and family on what promises to be a memorable night. Miami, still mathematically in contention for the Supporters’ Shield despite a midweek setback against Chicago Fire, hopes to add an extra layer of celebration for one of its most influential figures.

Saturday’s game will mark Busquets’ 108th appearance with Inter Miami, having debuted alongside Lionel Messi in the 2023 Leagues Cup. That same tournament remains his only trophy in MLS, although he helped the club to a record-setting 74-point campaign in 2024 under Gerardo “Tata” Martino.

At 37, Busquets has not publicly revealed his post-retirement plans, though several reports suggest he could remain in football in a coaching or managerial role.
