    WHAT HAPPENED?

Javier Mascherano has responded to Benjamin Cremaschi's recent remarks about his role at Inter Miami, with the Herons boss saying his door is open if the midfielder wants to discuss his circumstances.

Speaking to reporters this week, the 20-year-old midfielder said he was "frustrated" with his role and his lack of minutes recently.

"I go to the games and I have no idea where I'm going to play," the 20-year-old said.

When asked about Cremaschi's criticism following Saturday's 3-1 win over the LA Galaxy, Mascherano reflected on his own career while suggesting Creamschi should speak to him directly if he has concerns.

    WHAT MASCHERANO SAID

“I understand he likes to play as a central midfielder,” Mascherano said. "I also liked to play as a central midfielder, but when I went to Barcelona, I had to play as a centerback because otherwise I had no chance to play.

“The door to my office is always open for anyone who may be mad or doesn’t want to play a certain position to come tell me. I haven’t heard any complaints face to face. This is professional football. I decide where I think each player can give me their best.”

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Cremaschi has been a regular for Miami this season, starting 15 times, but he has been used in a variety of roles, particularly recently. A center midfielder by trade, Cremaschi has played as a No. 8, No. 10, No. 6 and even as a wingback at times this season.

On Saturday, Cremaschi started as a midfielder, playing 77 minutes before Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez won it with a pair of late goals for Miami.

With the win over the Galaxy, Inter Miami now find themselves sitting fifth in the Eastern Conference. The focus this week, though, is on the Leagues Cup, as they'll host Tigres in the quarterfinal on Wednesday.
