Arsenal defender Ben White was surprisingly left out of the England squad for their upcoming international friendlies against Brazil and Belgium. Gareth Southgate later revealed that Gunners sporting director Edu contacted him to inform him that <a href="https://www.goal.com/en/lists/ben-white-england-better-off-apart-arsenal-no-villain-turning-down-call-up/blt4642741ecf899b40" target="_blank">White does not want to be included for the time being</a>.

Since refusing to represent his national team, White is <a href="https://www.goal.com/en/lists/disgrace-ben-white-savaged-rejecting-england-call-up-arsenal-defender-turning-down-biggest-honour/bltb5c1d162275d2292" target="_blank">being vilified</a> by a certain section of the media and former players. Now Manchester United star Harry Maguire has opened up about the Arsenal player's decision as he claimed that playing for the Three Lions has been a childhood dream for him.

Speaking to <a href="https://www.thetimes.co.uk/sport/football/article/harry-maguire-millions-of-people-think-i-should-be-in-england-team-8ddvx0mx5" target="_blank">The Times</a>, Maguire said, "Ben’s an excellent footballer. He trained really well [at the World Cup before heading home early] but I honestly don’t know the ins and outs of why he’s not wanting to be in the squad at the moment. All I do know is that playing for your country is the greatest honour a footballer can get. When I was a young boy I dreamt of playing for my country. Every opportunity I get I will take. Playing for my country means absolutely everything to me."

WHAT HARRY MAGUIRE SAID

The former Red Devils skipper is currently in action for Southgate's side against Brazil at Wembley. He will be next seen in action for the national against Belgium in their second friendly encounter on March 26.
