According to reports by Football Espana, Ter Stegen will speak with his manager about what the future may hold after Barcelona announced the €25m signing of Espanyol goalkeeper Joan Garcia. The club reportedly did not inform 33-year-old Ter Stegen of their desire to replace him as number one, and the German shot-stopper remains determined to fight for his spot in the side.

Ter Stegen has spent 11 years at the Catalan giants, and would have hoped for a better ending if this is to be his time to depart the club. Barca would reportedly prefer to get the German off their wage bill, amidst the continued financial issues faced by the five-time European champions.

Ter Stegen has made 422 appearances for La Blaugrana, and started in Barca's last Champions League win in 2015. A decade on, the Liga super-club are looking to begin their next dynasty, which may involve a new face between the sticks.

Should an agreement be made between Ter Stegen and Barca that they will part ways this summer, the former Borussia Monchengladbach man will have a difficult decision to make about where his next chapter lies. If a new contract is agreed upon and Ter Stegen is given the chance to fight for his place, Barca may demand that this be on reduced terms.
