Fans erupted in joy and ran towards the pitch in a frenzied mass as Hamburger SV thrashed Ulm 6-1 at Volksparkstadion Stadium on Saturday and confirmed their promotion to the third division. The win at home helped Hamburger SV retain the top spot in Bundesliga 2 as they increased their lead over third-placed SV Elversberg to four points.

Following the full-time whistle, wild scenes erupted at the stadium. A massive rescue operation had to be conducted as one fan was left with life-threatening injuries, while 19 others were seriously hurt. A total of 44 fans had to be given on-field treatment, according to Berliner Tageszeitung.
