Leverkusen have already prepared a fresh contract for the German star, whose current deal is set to expire in 2027. The new contract will reportedly include an exit clause, which will become active in the summer of 2026, but Wirtz has yet to sign on the dotted line.
Wirtz is currently sidelined with a medial ligament injury in his right ankle. It's a huge blow for Xabi Alonso's side, who have fallen six points behind Bayern in the 2024-25 Bundesliga title race. Leverkusen have also reached the semi-finals of DFB Pokal, where they are due to face Arminia on April 1.
