'Always a compliment' - Fermin Lopez breaks silence on Chelsea transfer interest with 'truth' behind Barcelona stay

Chelsea were reportedly monitoring Lopez this summer as part of their midfield rebuild, with the 21-year-old catching the eye after his breakthrough season at Barcelona. Despite links to Stamford Bridge and speculation over a possible bid, Lopez has now made it clear that leaving Catalunya was never in his plans.

Speaking about the rumours, Lopez told reporters: "My priority has always been Barcelona. This club is my dream since I was a kid. It is always a compliment that there is interest from other clubs, but the truth is that I always wanted to stay and succeed at Barca."

Lopez became a regular under Hansi Flick last season, making over 40 appearances across all competitions. The midfielder is expected to play a key role as Barca look to compete for La Liga and Champions League honours in 2025-26.

Barcelona resume domestic action this weekend after the international break, with Lopez pushing to cement a starting spot under Flick and continue his rise as one of Spain’s brightest young midfield talents. They take on Valencia on September 14.
