Explained: Why Sir Alex Ferguson 'scolded' Lionesses star Ella Toone during Man Utd's victory over Chelsea

The Manchester United women's midfielder was in attendance for the men's team's Premier League clash against Chelsea at Old Trafford last week. Toone was seated in front of legendary former Red Devils manager Sir Alex Ferguson.

At half-time, she stepped away from her seat and returned late as the second half had already begun. Ferguson reportedly 'scolded' the 24-year-old jokingly for not returning in time, according to the Daily Mail.

Toone had not scored a goal or contributed with an assist in the WSL since March 2023 until last month when she converted a stellar goal in the club's win over Brighton. She was once again found the back of the net in the team's 4-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur.

The Red Devils have registered back-to-back wins since their defeat at home against Manchester City last month. They are currently fourth on the league table, four points behind Chelsea and Arsenal.

The Lionesses star will be next seen in action in the FA WSL Cup against Leicester City on Thursday before taking the field against rivals Liverpool on Sunday in the Women's Super League.
