    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Ahead of the crucial final in Basel, former Manchester United and current Bayer Leverkusen manager Erik ten Hag wished the Lionesses good luck and sent a message to his compatriot Wiegman and her assistant Arjan Veurink, who is set to take charge of the Netherlands women's team after the tournament.

  • WHAT TEN HAG SAID

Speaking to The Athletic, Ten Hag said: "Arjan, we grew up in the same region of Twente, and I invited you to some Ajax training sessions in 2020. It’s a success story! Veni, Vedi, Vici — you came, you saw, you conquered. The flagship of Dutch (women’s) football. Based on common sense, pragmatism and hard work. Today, you will put the finishing touches to your work!"
