  • Mbappe fails to shine on international duty
  • Didn't score against Germany or Chile
  • Criticised for his displays in both games
  • WHAT HAPPENED?

Mbappe failed to find the back of the net for France over the international break. The PSG star started the 2-0 defeat to Germany and the 3-2 win over Chile but could not come up with a goal for Les Bleus. His performances have subsequently attracted criticism, with Mbappe accused of "not even moving" in the two international friendlies for Didier Deschamps' side.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Mbappe had come into the France squad fresh from scoring a hat-trick for PSG in a 6-2 win over Montpellier and in the midst of another prolific campaign. The 25-year-old has 24 goals in 24 Ligue 1 games and six in eight in the Champions League this season for PSG. Mbappe may have failed to impress for France over this international break but he will still be key to their hopes of success this summer in Germany at Euro 2024.

  • WHAT HAS BEEN SAID

RMC Sport journalist Daniel Riolo said: “In the French team, it doesn’t happen that he isn’t motivated two games in a row. He's there, he goes through the match like a ghost, it's not normal, it's even embarrassing, he can't do that. If he comes to the France team, it's to play, especially if it's from the 1st to the 90th, he has no right to be a ghost, not him. He is captain, he must perform well. In these cases he can ask to play a match in two or he can play both matches but he is bad in both matches. I don't like it at all, these two matches are not good. He missed everything. His press conferences were excellent, his performances lousy."
