    WHAT HAPPENED?

Barcelona dominated the latest edition of the El Clasico rivalry, with the Real Madrid faithful having to watch their side get obliterated at the Bernabeu. Some fans crossed the line, however, as they allegedly hurled racist remarks towards Raphinha and 17-year-old Yamal, who were both in sparkling form.

  • THE BIGGER PICTURE

Prior to kick-off, the two sides were separated by three points in the top two positions in the table, as Barcelona's brilliant young team had made an electric start to the season. The stakes were high, and many expected a tense, close game reminiscent of the peak of the El Clasico rivalry at the start of the 2010's. However, Real Madrid unraveled in the second half, conceding four goals in a half-hour period.

Fans made their displeasure known with whistles and boos, while some took the heckling too far, with Spanish police confirming that three arrests were made.

  • SPANISH POLICE STATEMENT

In an X post made by the Spanish National Police, they stated: "Three arrested for uttering racist remarks against two football players during El Clasico played last October.

"Those arrested made xenophobic statements that violated the dignity and moral integrity of both."

  • WHAT NEXT FOR BARCELONA AND REAL MADRID?

While the investigation into fan behaviour at the game is likely to continue, both sides have on-field matters to attend to. Barcelona face Celta Vigo on Saturday in a bid to maintain the minimum six-point gap to their rivals, while Real Madrid travel to Leganes, where they must win in order to stay in close proximity to Barca at the summit of the league.
