Ederson 'has no braincells'! Man City stopper compared to Robert Sanchez for blowing Champions League first leg against Real Madrid with late howlers

Pep Guardiola's side twice threw away a lead against Real Madrid in their Champions League last 16 play-off tie at the Etihad on a costly night. Goalkeeper Ederson was the villain for the hosts and came in for plenty of criticism from supporters after the final whistle in Manchester.

The result means it's advantage Madrid ahead of the second leg next week at the Santiago Bernabeu and will be even more painful given Guardiola's side had been 2-1 up with 80 minutes on the clock. Yet there's no doubt that Ederson was at fault for Brahim Diaz's equaliser as well as the winner scored by Jude Bellingham in the second minute of stoppage time. The result, and the performance, continue what's been a difficult campaign for Guardiola's side both at home and in Europe.

The result leaves City on the brink of an early elimination from the Champions League, which would be an embarrassment for the club. Guardiola's side will try to overturn the 3-2 deficit in Madrid on Wednesday but face a visit from Newcastle United in the Premier League first on Saturday.
