Douglas Luiz breaks silence for first time since split from Juventus co-star Alisha Lehmann with birthday message

A day after his 27th birthday, Juventus and Brazil star Luiz posted a message on social media. This was the first time the midfielder has shared an update on a social platform since splitting up with his long-time girlfriend and Juventus co-star Lehmann.

On Instagram, Luiz posted: "Thank GOD for another year of life. A year of learning, achievements and accomplishments. Thank you for everything Lord."

La Gazzetta dello Sport reported last month that the footballing power couple had gone their separate ways. The Brazilian was a notable absentee during the celebrations after Lehmann's Juventus Women's team won the Scudetto in April. The couple met while both were still playing for Aston Villa before joining Juve at the same time last summer.

Luiz will be back in action for the Bianconeri on Saturday as they take on Lazio in a must-win Serie A clash. Igor Tudor's side are currently fourth in the league and are fighting for a Champions League slot for next season. Beyond that, Luiz's future in Italy is uncertain amid links with a Premier League return.
