Dominic Calvert-Lewin wanted by Serie A title contenders Atalanta! Newcastle risk missing out on Everton striker with shock move to Italy on the cards

According to The Sun, Serie A title contenders Atalanta want to sign the 27-year-old in the January transfer window and sent a representative to Merseyside to try and lure him to Gian Piero Gasperini's team. The report adds Newcastle United are waiting for him in the summer, when he would be out of contract, but the Italian side may beat them to the punch.

Calvert-Lewin seems destined to finally end his association with Everton after joining them from Sheffield United in 2016. Since then, he has scored 70 goals in 267 games in a spell that has been blighted by injuries. Incidentally, Atalanta are second in Serie A, are flying high in the Champions League, and have a serious chance of winning trophies this season - and that may be a tempting proposal for the England forward.

Calvert-Lewin, who has 11 England caps to his name, hasn't hit double figures for goals in the Premier League since the 2020-21 season - where he found the net on 16 occasions.

It remains to be seen if Calvert-Lewin, who is currently out with an ankle injury, has played his last game for Everton and if Atalanta will pursue this move further.
