    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Portugal fell to France on penalties in their Euro 2024 quarter-final. It was 0-0 after 120 minutes, meaning that Ronaldo, who had a penalty saved by Slovenia's Jan Oblak during the last 16, failed to score at an international tournament for the first time in his career. He converted his attempt in the shootout, but Joao Felix missed and France scored all five of theirs to knock Portugal out. Ronaldo had already declared this was his last European Championship as he would be 43 by the time of Euro 2028.

  • WHAT GEORGINA RODRIGUEZ SAID

Georgina was, alongside Cristiano Jr and Ronaldo's other children, a regular at Portugal's Euro 2024 fixtures. She is now happy to have everyone back under one roof and captioned her video on Instagram: "Welcome home, my love."

    WHAT NEXT FOR RONALDO?

Ronaldo will have to make a fairly quick choice about whether he carries on with international football. Portugal have the start of their 2024-25 UEFA Nations League campaign in September with back-to-back games against Croatia and Scotland. The finals, should Portugal get there again, are scheduled for next June, by which time Ronaldo will have turned 40. Speculation is rife about whether he will pursue a place at one last World Cup in 2026. Roberto Martinez has declared there is no decision yet.
