It was a disappointing night for the Portuguese forward as his side succumbed to a 2-0 loss in the Riyadh Season Cup on Thursday with Sergej Milinlovic-Savic and Salem Al-Dawsari on target. Ronaldo remained an anonymous figure for the bulk of the match and hardly had a sight of goal as his team-mates mostly ran out of ideas in the attacking third.

The Al-Hilal fans compounded his misery as Messi chants started reverberating inside the arena in the final stages of the match. Ronaldo endulged the fans in a response - rather than ignore them - and asked for more of the same as frustration clearly began to creep in for the forward.

This is not the first time that Al-Hilal fans have got under the skin of Ronaldo. The forward was embroiled in controversy, back in April 2023, when he made an indecent gesture in response to persistent Messi chants by those supporters following a 2-0 loss. However, the next time he was more mature in his reaction as he soaked in the atmosphere and blew flying kisses to the stands before climbing down the tunnel at half-time, in what ended in a 3-0 defeat.
