Pochettino was busy strengthening his ranks and welcomed a swathe of promising youngsters to Stamford Bridge during the summer window.

A vast sum of money was spent once again by Boehly & co. Indeed, the Londoners broke the British transfer record for a new signing, having brought Moises Caicedo from Brighton & Hove Albion in a deal believed to be worth around £115m ($146m).

But the Blues didn't stop there, splashing the cash to sign France international duo Christopher Nkunku and Axel Disasi from RB Leipzig and AS Monaco, respectively.

Spanish shot-stopper Robert Sanchez was roped in from Brighton & Hove Albion as a direct replacement for Kepa Arrizabalaga.

The Blues have also not shied away from splashing money on young guns across the world. Manchester City academy graduate Cole Palmer, Belgian wonderkid Romeo Lavia, as well as Brazilian talents Angelo and Deivid Washington, along with Diego Morreira,are some prime examples of the money Pochettino and co. have spent in the summer.

Pochettino sold multiple names of the Blues' roster to trim his squad. Chelsea cleared out the majority of their deadwood, as well as offloading quite a few prized assets to avoid falling foul of FFP restrictions.

Chelsea outcasts — Edouard Mendy and Kalidou Koulibaly have followed in the footsteps of N'Golo Kante in leaving Chelsea in favour of a lucrative move to the Saudi Pro League, with Hakim Ziyech to join them sooner or later. Mateo Kovacic moved to rivals Manchester City, while Kai Havertz joined Arsenal.

Fans favourite Mason Mount also controversially moved to a rival in Man United in a deal worth an initial £55 million, bringing an end to his 18-year association with Chelsea. After an injury-hit spell at Stamford Bridge, Christian Pulisic departed for Serie A giants AC Milan, who also signed Ruben Loftus-Cheek.

Long-serving Spanish defender and captain Cesar Azpilicueta also parted ways with the club, moving back to his homeland to play for Atletico Madrid. Callum Hudson Odoi also left Stamford Bridge, moving to Nottingham Forest for a knockdown fee.

While the Blues have yet to make a notable first-team signing so far, they are expected to end the January transfer window with a bang as Pochettino hopes to further bolster his squad. The Blues have been heavily linked with numerous big names this month as Pochettino plots a late and ambitious bid for Champions League qualification.

Pochettino has made his demands for more senior profiles to be added quite clear throughout his tenure, with a defender, midfielder and striker all on his shopping list.

Napoli's Victor Osimhen andBrentford's Ivan Toney are Chelsea's leading targets in attack, with Osimhen signing a new Napoli contract with a reported release clause of £112 million.

Pochettino called on the upper hierarchy to bring in new players in the January transfer window but it's been more about shifting players out rather than bringing fresh faces in. Chelsea have offloaded David Datro Fofana and Ian Maatsen to Burnley and Borussia Dortmund, respectively this month, while Conor Callagher could still potentially leave Stamford Bridge.

While Chelsea are planning to spend big on established talent, the massive spending in the recent past means they will likely have to cull some important assets, too. Defenders Trevoh Chalobah and Maatsen all remain up for sale, while winger Noni Madueke could be allowed to leave on loan. The Blues would also be willing to allow left-back Marc Cucurella to go unless Ben Chilwell's injury problems continue.

Chelsea academy graduate and first-team star Gallagher has a little over 18 months left to run and the club are open to letting the midfielder leave as selling players who came through the Cobham academy will record immediate profit in the books, helping them stay in line with Financial Fair Play regulations.
