  • WHAT HAPPENED?

Chelsea want to reward Jackson after a promising debut season by extending his contract by two years, according to The Telegraph. The Senegal international signed an eight-year deal when he joined the Blues last summer, so a new deal would allow the club to improve his wages while pinning him down until 2033.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Under Todd Boehly, Chelsea have focused on signing young players to long-term deals. It also looks like they are keen to reward players they believe deserve it. News of Jackson's possible extension comes after reports that Cole Palmer is set to extend his deal by two years, making him one of the club's highest earners and recognising an exceptional debut campaign at Stamford Bridge.

Jackson is keen to improve on last season's tally of 17 goals in all competitions. The 23-year-old netted 14 times in the Premier League from an expected goals value of 19.86, per understat.com, and admitted in April that he "should have scored more".

"I miss a lot but I’m trying to create more chances and score more. Hopefully next year it’s going to be better," he told Sky Sports.
