    THE BIGGER PICTURE

According to AS,Chelsea have been keeping close tabs on the winger and as they view him as a potential successor to Sancho, should a transfer materialise in the coming months.

Despite the growing speculation surrounding Rodríguez’s future, Real Betis are understood to be calm about the situation. The club moved swiftly to secure the youngster’s services with a fresh contract that includes a €35 million (£30m/$40m) release clause. Interestingly, the contract also contains a secondary clause, which permits Betis to raise that buyout figure if serious interest arrives, giving them added leverage in any future negotiations.

  • DID YOU KNOW?

Under the guidance of manager Manuel Pellegrini, Rodríguez has been deployed primarily on the left wing, where he enjoys cutting inside onto his favoured right foot. However, his flexibility has also allowed him to operate on the right flank, occasionally filling in for Antony, who is currently on loan from Manchester United.
