  • WHAT HAPPENED?

Leeds United defeated Norwich City 2-0 on Wednesday, with USMNT midfielder Brenden Aaronson getting the start in a big victory for the Whites. Fellow U.S. international Josh Sargent was a second half substitution for the Canaries, introduced in the 59th minute down two goals. However, the forward couldn't make anything happen as they pushed for a late goal.

Leeds' strikes came from wingers Daniel James and Manor Solomon, with the latter opening the scoring less than 60 seconds into the match.

With the win, the Whites remain atop the English Championship table with 59 points, leading second-place Sheffield United by just one point.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Sargent returned to the pitch for Norwich just over a week back in their FA Cup clash with Brighton after an extended period on the sideline due to injury. The American striker has now featured in three-straight matches for the Canaries, but has yet to find himself on the scoresheet. All three matches have been substitute cameos.

Aaronson, meanwhile, has solidified his place in the Leeds XI in recent months, playing a crucial role in their midfield triangle as an attacking midfielder. On Wednesday, he logged 90 minutes, completing 21-of-24 passes while creating two attacking chances. He registered 40 touches on the ball, with six of them coming in the opposition box, resulting in one blocked shot attempt from the American.

  • DID YOU KNOW?

Norwich reportedly turned down a transfer offer of $20 million-plus offer for Sargent in the summer, after FC Cincinnati reportedly pursued him as a transfer target. FCC would ultimately bring in Kevin Denkey instead, in a MLS-record deal of $16.2 million.
