    WHAT HAPPENED?

Jon Dahl Tomasson has sensationally offered to quit Blackburn and his proposal is being considered by Venky's, the club's owners. The Dane thinks he cannot continue but requires Venky's approval to leave in order to avoid defaulting on the contract he signed in June 2023. His proposed departure follows Blackburn's failed attempt to sign USMNT striker Duncan McGuire from Orlando City which fell through due to an administrative error. The transfer is reported to be one of the reasons for his resignation, per David Anderson of The Mirror.

  • THE BIGGER PICTURE

When Tomasson took over at Blackburn, the 47-year-old intended to earn promotion. Last season, Blackburn missed out on the playoffs due to goal difference. Rovers have gradually fallen down the standings to 18th place and have only triumphed once in their previous 11 Championship games. More misery looks set to follow with the Dane now keen to leave after feeling he has not received the support and expertise required to stop Rovers' downward trend.

  • DID YOU KNOW?

Due to legal disputes in India, Venky's is unable to provide Rovers with any additional funding, and Tomasson has tired of putting out fires. When prominent players Bradley Dack, Daniel Ayala, Thomas Kaminski, and Ben Brereton Diaz left at the end of the summer transfer window, he made an offer to leave as well.

    WHAT NEXT FOR BLACKBURN?

It has been reported by The Mirror that the Indian ownership has already identified John Eustace as the successor for Tomasson. Eustace was previously at Birmingham City but was let go by the club as they wanted to bring in Wayne Rooney as the head coach. Rooney lasted just 15 games in charge before being sacked.
