Hands off, Arsenal! Newcastle to make Anthony Gordon their highest-paid player in bid to fend off Gunners

The Magpies are prepared to make the 23-year-old their highest-paid player by offering him a deal worth £9 million per season, the Daily Mail reports. The club have already opened talks with the winger following uncertainty around his future over the summer transfer window.

Arsenal are reported to be monitoring the England international and could make a move for him next year, while Newcastle were prepared to offer Gordon to Liverpool in the summer, only for the Reds to turn them down despite holding an interest in signing him.

Gordon's contract at St James' Park runs until 2026 but the club will aim to extend his commitment to ensure they do not lose him any time soon. Gordon has scored one goal in his four Premier League appearances so far this season.

While talks over a new contract continue, Gordon and Newcastle will look to maintain their unbeaten start in the league when they visit Craven Cottage to face Fulham on Saturday.
