  • WHAT HAPPENED?

Speaking to reporters ahead of Liverpool's Premier League clash against Brighton on Saturday, Slot revealed that things are still up in the air when it comes to the contracts of Virgil van Dijk, Trent Alexander-Arnold, and Mohamed Salah. All three players will see their current deals expire next summer, and Van Dijk is currently in talks over a new contract. However, Slot conceded the unresolved situation "could become a problem".

  • WHAT SLOT SAID

Slot said: "The contract situation could become a problem if the players don't perform as well as they do at the moment. It's also not sure that if they perform not as good anymore that has anything to do with the contract situation. At the moment, all three of them are in a good place, they all perform really, really, really well. There are ongoing discussions between what Virgil said are the people he had to talk with, and that's not me, as you know. I talk to him about other things. Let's wait and see."

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Many Liverpool fans remain confident that Van Dijk will renew his contract at Anfield, and talks between his team and the club are ongoing. However, speculation around Salah's future has been ramping up, and it looks increasingly likely that Alexander-Arnold will be leaving the club when he comes to the end of his contract, with Real Madrid the favourites to land his signature. It's possible the Reds will try to cash in on their star right-back in January.

  • WHAT NEXT FOR LIVERPOOL'S STARS?

As Slot mentioned, the contract speculation hasn't stopped these three Liverpool stars from performing excellently this season. The club currently sits top of the table ahead of a tricky but winnable home fixture against Brighton on Saturday. A heavily rotated Reds side beat the Seagulls 3-2 in the Carabao Cup in midweek, and they'll be hoping they can follow that result up with another victory.
