  • WHAT HAPPENED?

Liverpool have been on top form in the Premier League all season long and looked the likeliest candidate to win their 20th English top-division title, with defending champions Manchester City struggling and Arsenal having been inconsistent through the middle part of the season. On Sunday, with a 5-1 win over Tottenham, Slot managed to win the Premier League title in his first season with the Reds following his appointment as Klopp's successor at Anfield.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

At the end of last season, Klopp had been the one to introduce Slot as his successor at Anfield, and almost a year later, the Dutchman has paid back the faith with a Premier League title. During the celebrations, Slot also sang the famous 'Jurgen Klopp la la la' song to pay tribute to the German coach, who did so much for the Merseyside club. The former Feyenoord coach has now explained why he sang Klopp's name while celebrating the title win.

    WHAT SLOT SAID

Speaking to the media, Slot said: "[I chanted Klopp's name] because of what he did before I even arrived here. I think that is something not one manager ever did before. So that is what definitely helped me. But apart from that, he helped me even more by the team he left behind and the culture he left behind in that team.

"The quality the players have was obvious for everyone, but the culture of hard work, not only from the players but also from the staff members, has been incredible, and that is one of the reasons why we could achieve what we have achieved this season. For obvious reasons, I think it was a nice moment to thank him as well."

  • WHAT NEXT FOR LIVERPOOL?

The Reds looked likely to challenge for the European treble this season, however, they will end the season with only the Premier League title. With Trent Alexander-Arnold set to leave Liverpool, Slot will have a lot of work this summer to fill the hole left by the departure of the right-back.
