  • WHAT HAPPENED?

Ajax have confirmed that they have reached a settlement with Antony after the Brazilian star contested fines that totalled over £300,000 during his time at the Dutch club, which he deemed "excessive". They related to the winger missing training sessions before he made his move to Old Trafford. As he waited for the deal to go through, he missed two games and three training sessions, with Dutch media outlet Algemeen Dagblad reporting that he was fined a total of €360,000.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Antony began court proceedings against Ajax in January as he aimed to reduce the fine; his argument claimed his manager, Alfred Schreuder, had granted him permission to sit out the training sessions. The final fine was handed out after he says he was granted permission to travel to England to complete his ill-fated United switch.

  • WHAT AJAX SAID

Ajax released a statement, which read: "Ajax and Antony have reached a settlement in an arbitration case that the former Ajacied had filed against the club. In this procedure, the arbitration committee of the KNVB recently issued an interim ruling, after which Ajax and Antony re-engaged in discussions. This has led to both parties finding a solution that satisfies both the club and the former player. No further details about the settlement will be disclosed.

"Given the positive history between Ajax and the Brazilian attacker, all parties involved are pleased that the arbitration process has come to an end and that they can put this matter behind them. Antony left Amsterdam for Manchester United in the summer of 2022."
