All completed Manchester City transfers so far in 2023-24 - Listed

Pep Guardiola's Manchester City were crowned the Premier League champions for the third time running at the end of the 2022-23 season, while also lifting the FA Cup and Champions League trophies to add their name to a select group of treble winners.

However, after the departures of, in particular, Ilkay Gundogan, Aymeric Laporte, Riyad Mahrez, and Cole Palmer over the summer, they have looked like a team still capable of winning the league, but who are altogether more vulnerable than they were in the spring, and light in numbers at times.

The imminent return of Kevin De Bruyne from injury arguably carries greater significance than any new arrivals, with City likely to wait until the summer before making any big-money signings, but Guardiola isn't going to spend January simply watching title-rivals strengthen, and the Sky Blues could still conduct some business.

With the winter transfer window up and running, GOAL has got you covered with all the completed Manchester City transfers in the ongoing 2023-24 season, below.

Having won a historic treble in the 2022-23 season, Guardiola looked to bring in quality reinforcements to solidify his side's dominance in England and Europe.

Mateo Kovacic became Manchester City's first signing of the summer, swapping Chelsea for the Cityzens.

City made a key defensive acquisition by bringing in Croatian defender Josko Gvardiol for a reported £77m (€90m/$98m), making him the second most expensive-defender of all time. With wingers Riyad Mahrez and Cole Palmer out of the door, City signed highly-rated Belgium wonderkid Jeremy Doku from French side Rennes to reinforce the flanks.

Following Kevin de Bruyne's long-term injury, the Sky Blues splashed the cash to bring Portuguese midfield maestro Matheus Nunes from Wolves to bolster Guardiola's midfield ranks even further.

    Departures summer window

The biggest transfer sale by Manchester City during the summer window was the departure of England U-21 international Cole Palmer, who joined Chelsea in a package deal worth £42.5 million (€49.5m), comprising an initial £40m with a further £2.5m in potential add-ons.

Algerian international winger Riyad Mahrez and central defender Aymeric Laporte moved to Saudi Pro League clubs Al-Ahli and Al-Nassr, respectively, banking the club significant fees. City also lost club captain Ilkay Gundogan to Barcelona on a free transfer.

Youngsters Taylor Harwood-Bellis and Tommy Doyle both left for Southampton and Wolves, respectively. Both departed on loan deals that could be made permanent. Joao Cancelo finalized a loan move to Barcelona, while James McAtee sealed a short-term loan move to Sheffield United.

    New signings January window

City have already made moves to strengthen their squad in the long run, and are understood to be close to a £21.7 million deal for River Plate's Claudio Echeverri. Guardiola has had a lot of success in the South American market recently, particularly with attackers Gabriel Jesus and Julian Alvarez.

However, the Argentina Under-17 international is expected to spend another year back in his homeland before making the switch to the Etihad Stadium.

Although Guardiola has played down talk of getting deals done this month, it's obvious that he quite clearly doesn't view Kalvin Phillips as a capable Rodri understudy, and could push the City hierarchy to sign a brand new defensive midfielder.

Several recent reports have tipped Boca Juniors' talented full-back Valentin Barco is set to join the Citizens this winter, while City's recruitment team remain obsessed with West Ham's Lucas Paqueta as the ideal option for the left-sided No. 8 role.

    Departures January window

Forgotten man Kalvin Phillips is likely to be the one main departure, having barely featured during his 18 months at the Etihad Stadium. Newcastle United and Juventus are two of the clubs interested in a loan move for the Englishman, who is desperate to restart his stagnated club football career ahead of the 2024 European Championships. USMNT goalkeeper Zack Steffen will also be made available for a transfer away from the club after losing his No. 2 spot to Stefan Ortega.
