Ulinzi Stars duo ruled out of KPL season opener against Vihiga United

Uliinzi Stars will miss the services of two key players when they take on Vihiga United in the first match of the 2018/19 KPL season on Sunday.

As the team gears up for the first match of the new season, head Coach Dunstan Nyaudo will have to do without two key players for the game at the Bukhungu Stadium on Sunday.

Dunstan Nyaudo will have to make a late adjustment to his squad after midfielder Bernard Ongoma and Omar Mbongi were both ruled out of the game.

Ongoma sustained a deep cut in the face during training on Thursday while Mbongi is down with malaria infection. “Ongoma’s exclusion is particularly a big blow for us because he has had a great preseason and ahead of this game, he was super fit. You could see it clearly and he was very confident. As for Mbongi, his crucial role in the team can never be overlooked.

“He can play in three different positions and to miss such a player for any game is not easy. He was down with malaria and didn’t train on Friday but we hope both of them will be available in the next game,” Nyaudo told Ulinzistars.com.

The absence of the duo could open up a chance for new boy Robert Oyuyo, who returns to the team for a second stint.

Another new signing, John Njuguna is also in the squad and could play a part in the match.
