It was a lousy day for Manchester United at the White Hart Lane finale on Sunday, but there was at least some positive news.
Wayne Rooney's 71st minute strike, the Red Devils' lone goal in a 2-1 loss at hosts Tottenham, represented a tiny breakthrough for the club as it was the first of the season at a ground belonging to a team competing against United in the top six of the Premier League table.
1 - Man Utd's goal was the first scored by a Jose Mourinho side in eight away league games against the current PL top six. Awaited.— OptaJoe (@OptaJoe) May 14, 2017
Unfortunately for United, the goal wasn't enough to help in an increasingly challenging bid to secure one of England's European places. Sunday's result sees Jose Mourinho's side remaining in sixth place with just two matches to go.
