Porto vs Liverpool: TV channel, live stream, squad news & preview

Liverpool make the trip to Portugal for the first leg of their Champions League last-16 tie against Porto on Valentine's Day.

Having been ejected from the FA Cup last month and being that they are unlikely to win the Premier League, the tournament is the Reds' only realistic hope of winning silverware this season.

While they may be considered outside bets for the title, Jurgen Klopp's men boast a forward line that bagged 23 goals in the group stage — second only to Paris Saint-Germain — and they are not to be trifled with.

Porto stand in the way of the Merseyside outfit though and they will be aiming to establish an advantage that they can bring back to Anfield for the second leg next month.

In the United Kingdom (UK), the game can be watched live on TV on BT Sport 2 and it can be streamed live online using the BT Sport app.

Porto have a near-full complement of players to choose from, including striker Vincent Aboubakar, who has scored five goals in the competition so far. Defender Felipe is suspended, while Ivan Marcano and Andre Andre are doubts for the game.

Liverpool finished top of Group E, emerging unbeaten after games against Sevilla, Spartak Moscow and Maribor. However, while they scored plenty of goals, they also demonstrated a weak underbelly, something that was perfectly encapsulated when they forfeited a 3-0 lead away to Sevilla to draw 3-3.

There have been some changes in personnel since then though, with Philippe Coutinho departing for Barcelona and Virgil van Dijk arriving from Southampton to strengthen a flimsy defence.

Losing Coutinho is undoubtedly a blow, but Klopp will hope that Van Dijk's presence in the backline can go some way towards eradicating the kind of errors that left them feeling equally incensed and embarrassed earlier in the season.

With the colossal Netherlands international marshalling the defence and the likes of Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino in top form, Liverpool will be confident about their chances of landing an early blow on their hosts on Wednesday.

However, they will need to be wary of the Primeira Liga leaders, who found a second wind in the second half of the group stage to secure crucial victories over RB Leipzig and Monaco.
