Mohun Bagan reveal seven new signings amidst administrative doldrums

Kolkata giants Mohun Bagan are in the thick of an administrative crisis that has cast a clout on the financial capability of the club.

For starters, the players are yet to receive three months' salary from last season. Officials have defaulted on three dates to clear the payments (15 April, 15 May and 30 May) of the players.

All this is a result of inaction on the part of General Secretary Anjan Mitra, which propelled 19 of the 31 Executive Committee members to resign, of which included heavyweights Srinjoy Bose and Debashish Dutta.

The club, however, continues to function as the quorum in the Executive Committee is set at seven. Failure to clear past dues and obscurity regarding the budget for the 2018-19 season has also prompted Football Secretary Satyajit Chatterjee, a former Green and Maroon player himself, to put in his papers.

While members of the club demand fresh elections and Mitra's ouster citing lack of commitment, the senior statesman has in turn called for an Executive Committee meeting on Friday.

Meanwhile, an ad-hoc five-member committee which was constituted to oversee squad-building for next season have charted up a 24-member squad for the Calcutta Football League (CFL), that starts in July.

Seven new names appeared on the list that already had the likes of Aser Dipanda and Yuta Kinowaki, who were retained. Gokulam Kerala forward Henry Kisseka was signed up last month while the Minerva Punjab duo, Abhishek Ambekar and Moinuddin Khan's move was reported earlier.

The new faces include goalkeepers Ricardo Cardozo and Mainak Akuli from Churchill Brothers and Salkia Friends Association respectively, defender Lalchhawnkima and wing-back Abinash Ruidas, both from Mumbai City FC.

Midfielders Darren Caldeira from ATK and PM Britto from Churchill too have signed along with Aizawl FC forward William Lalnufela. Speculation surrounding right-back Arijit Bagui's move to East Bengal was put to rest as he appeared on the list too.
