Mike Mulvey announced as Central Coast Mariners coach on two-year contract

Former Brisbane Roar championship winning coach Mike Mulvey has been appointed Central Coast Mariners manager for the next two seasons.

Mulvey was announced as the new boss at a Mariners function on Wednesday night, replacing Paul Okon - who walked out of the club last month.

The 55-year-old English-born coach won the A-League double with Roar in 2013-14, before being sacked early in the next season after a poor run of form.

Since that axing, Mulvey has held several jobs in Malaysia and Thailand before deciding it was the right time to come back to Australia.

"I couldn't be more delighted to be returning to Australia and to embrace the opportunity that exists here on the Central Coast," Mulvey said after his appointment was announced.

"The Mariners are a club with a rich history and genuine tradition. During the first decade, they demanded success and developed some wonderful players.

"My task in the coming years is very clear - I want to restore that culture of ambition and promote the hungriest young talent in the country."

Mulvey will take over at the start of pre-season for the 2018-19 season, with his contract extending until the end of the 2019-20 campaign.

He will be tasked with lifting the fortunes of a club who are currently ninth on the A-League table and have finished eighth, 10th, and eighth in the past three seasons.
