Martial records Man Utd first with goal against Burnley

Anthony Martial has netted in three successive Premier League games for Manchester United for the first time.

The Frenchman has found form at the right time for the Red Devils, with Jose Mourinho’s side in need of inspiration in the final third.

Martial has stepped up by finding the target in a 2-0 victory over Everton, a 3-0 mauling of Stoke and now a 1-0 win over Burnley.

His latest strike broke the deadlock in a tight encounter at Turf Moor, with the Clarets having held firm for 54 minutes.

Good work from Romelu Lukaku offered Martial a sight of goal, and he crashed home off the crossbar.

While the 22-year-old’s run of form has helped United to cement their standing in second place in the Premier League table, it has also offered a timely reminder of his value to Jose Mourinho.

With a deal for Alexis Sanchez seemingly imminent, Martial has made himself a key figure in United’s plans.

He could now form part of a devastating attacking unit alongside the incoming Chilean, with the Red Devils set to welcome another top talent onto their books who can help to carry the goalscoring load.

Victory over Burnley has lifted United, for a few hours at least, to within nine points of arch-rivals Manchester City at the top of the Premier League table.
