The Gabon international scored a hat-trick against Benfica on Wednesday to send Dortmund into the last eight of the Champions League, and both Gerrard and Gary Lineker were impressed with what he had to offer.
Aubameyang has been linked with a move away from the Bundesliga, with Real Madrid heavily touted as a possible landing spot, but Lineker and Gerrard both think that he would be the perfect fit at Anfield.
“He’s exactly what Liverpool need, isn’t he Steven?,” Lineker asked Gerrard on BT Sport.
“Yeah, but if he’s in this type of form, he’ll alert a lot of clubs - not just Liverpool,” Gerrard replied.
“He attacks the frame all the time and he gets tap ins because of his movement.”
Reds boss Jurgen Klopp has rarely used an out-and-out striker since taking over at Liverpool, with Daniel Sturridge offered limited chances to impress despite a lack of depth at the position.
Klopp has preferred to use attacking midfielders Roberto Firmino, Philippe Coutinho and Sadio Mane up front, but this has seen many pundits criticise a lack of cutting edge in front of goal.
Aubameyang's hat-trick takes him to 30 goals in 36 appearances for Dortmund, while he also leads the Bundesliga goalscoring charts with 21 goals.
