The Malaysian FA (FAM) has received a gift of RM4 million (around USD 933,000) from the Sultan of Johor, Sultan Ibrahim Ismail ibni Sultan Iskandar Al-Haj as a bonus for the recent success of the Malaysia U23 team.

Just last month, the Young Tigers, led by head coach Datuk Ong Kim Swee, qualified for the 2018 AFC U23 Championship as Group H leaders, the first time ever Malaysia have qualified for the tournament. The success came despite the fact that several clubs refused to let their players join the team, and that Ong's team had minimal preparations.

According to a post by FAM Secretary-General Dato' Hamidin Amin on the FAM Facebook page, the bonus is part of the reward promised to the players and team officials. In an earlier interview, he earlier said that they each would get at least RM 6,000.

In the post, Hamidin also wrote that part of the bonus will also be spent on further developing the sport in the country.

Sultan Ibrahim Ismail is also the father of FAM president Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim, the Crown Prince of the state of Johor, and club owner of Johor Darul Ta'zim.
