GAME PREVIEW

Walter Mazzarri Watford Premier LeagueGetty Images

Walter Mazzarri looks to have achieved the minimum expectation of keeping Watford in the Premier League, but may not surpass it given the difficulty of the Hornets' final three matches of the campaign.

It would not be a surprise to see them stuck on 40 points and - at best - precariously close to strugglers Swansea City and Hull City by season's end, which would surely increase the calls for Watford to find a third new manager for their third year back in the top flight.

Indeed, some of the fans who travelled for the dreadful 3-0 defeat at Leicester City last weekend were singing the name of Quique Sanchez Flores, who achieved a 13th-place finish last season, rather than Mazzarri's.

In truth, 14th or 15th - Watford currently occupy the latter position, with Burnley above them on goal difference - is probably about right for the Hornets on the strength of their current squad, but fair criticisms can be aimed at their style of play, injury record and numerous misses in the transfer market under the Italian.

The biggest fear for most fans if Mazzarri was to continue would be that with Odion Ighalo sold, Troy Deeney firing infrequently and no guarantee M'Baye Niang will stay beyond his current loan, things could quite easily get worse in 2017-18.
