Dimitri Payet topples Cristiano Ronaldo in UEFA Player Barometer at EURO 2016

Dimitri Payet has overtaken Crisitano Ronaldo in UEFA’s official SOCAR Player Barometer after the first round of matches at EURO 2016.

The France midfielder leads the race for the Golden Boot after making a sensational start to the competition, setting up Olivier Giroud for his side's opener before rescuing the hosts with a stunning last-minute winner to seal a 2-1 victory over Romania.

Ronaldo struggled to make a major impact in his tournament debut as Portugual closed out the first week of UEFA EURO 2016 matches with a 1-1 draw against Iceland.

Ahead of the tournament, Ronaldo and Zlatan Ibrahimovic topped the UEFA EURO 2016 Player Barometer, which initially ranked players based on performances for club and country since the start of January, with England’s James Milner a surprise inclusion in the top five.

Zlatan has now dropped to 19th despite creating Sweden’s equaliser in their 1-1 draw with Repubic of Ireland, and Toni Kroos and Shkodran Mustafi now make up the top three after they combined to give Germany the lead in a victory over Ukraine.

Leonardo Bonucci is another of the fast risers after a strong defensive showing and sensational long pass for Emanuele Giaccherini inspired Italy to victory over Belgium.

Barcelona’s Gerard Pique is currently ranked the second-best central defender at the tournament after he headed Spain’s winner against Czech Republic.

The Player Barometer values different data points in direct correlation to each player's position and weights performances in direct relation to the strength of the opposition.
