Carlsberg Player of the Week: Antoine Griezmann stars as France conquer the world

20 years after they first lifted the World Cup trophy, France re-lived the moments as Didier Deschamps and his charges won the World Cup after a 4-2 win over Croatia in the final on Sunday at Moscow's Luzhniki stadium.

And the star of the night was Antoine Griezmann, who stepped up to the occasion and powered France home. He scored a goal and was also heavily involved in France's forays forward. The Atletico Madrid forward has been very good with his set-piece delivery throughout the tournament and it was no different in the final as well.

France's opener, amidst a flurry of attacks from Croatia, came from a set-piece. Griezmann, once again, sent in a brilliant delivery that Mario Mandzukic could only glance into his own net from a dangerous position.

But a sluggish France were pegged back immediately by the Croatians and Deschamps' men had to rely on Griezmann to restore their lead. The chance arrived from a handball from Ivan Perisic inside the penalty box. The VAR was called into action and France were awarded a penalty.

Griezmann, showing nerves of steel, rolled it past Danijel Subasic to make it 2-1. It was a lead the Les Blues would never relinquish.

Pogba's third goal also had Griezmann's involvement. After receiving a cutback from Mbappe, he laid it off for the Manchester United midfielder whose initial shot was blocked but then swept the rebound into the net.

He was a constant menace in attack and could have scored more goals himself. He had two shots on target and was a key outlet in counters for the Deschamps' men.

In what was a fantastic display of skill on the biggest stage of football, Griezmann showed he is one of the best in the game with a superlative performance that led his country to the ultimate glory.

He is Carlsberg's Player of the Week!
