The eight-time Ballon d’Or winner has regularly handed out autographs and posed for pictures when leaving training centres at Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain, but there will not have been too many occasions when he had to leave his mark on a replica jersey while pulled up at traffic lights.

That, though, is precisely what happened when the 2022 World Cup winner was out and about living his everyday life. Messi is now plying his club trade in MLS for Inter Miami and has seen his profile soar in the United States.

One lucky group of supporters were able to stop alongside Messi during a road trip, and they were not prepared to let that moment pass them by. The all-time great was happy to meet their autograph request, as he scribbled on an Argentina jersey, and amid the screams aimed in his direction could be heard: “I love you more than my dad!”

Messi is currently out on the road with Inter Miami, having jetted to Saudi Arabia as part of their pre-season programme. He is readying himself for friendly fixtures at the Riyadh Cup against Al-Hilal and the Al-Nassr side that is hoping to see Cristiano Ronaldo recover from injury in time to renew acquaintances with his eternal rival.
