Revealed: How Vivianne Miedema fell out of love with Arsenal before shock exit amid tense relationship with manager Jonas Eidevall

Meanwhile, Miedema was unhappy with the medical advice at Arsenal and the direction the club was moving in. Eidevall appears to gesture to Miedema to sit back down, touches her shoulder and seems to push her gently. The Arsenal star reacts instantly and appears furious.

News of the star forward's impending departure has upset fans who have called on the club to hand her a new contract and dispense with Eidevall. WSL legend Ellen White has also described Arsenal's decision to move Miedema on as "absolutely shocking" and added that she hopes the forward "sticks two fingers up at Arsenal". Former manager Joe Montemurro has also been surprised by Arsenal's decision not to offer Miedema a new contract, a player he freely admits he "loved" worked with.

A source close to the team told NRC: "She had not been happy for some time. Not with Jonas and not with the direction the team was going.”

Miedema scored 125 goals and contributed 50 assists in her 172 appearances for Arsenal and is the all-time top scorer in the WSL.

Miedema will be available on a free transfer once her contract with Arsenal expires in the summer and is unlikely to lack for offers. Manchester City have been touted as her most likely destination as they look to strengthen after missing out on the WSL title to Chelsea on goal difference.
