  • WHAT HAPPENED?

After the final whistle in the first leg of the CONCACAF Nations League quarter-final in Honduras, objects were thrown from the stands towards the El Tri coach and a beer can smacked the top of his head. Blood started pouring out almost immediately as Aguirre shook hands with the opposition coach, who quickly called for medical attention. Aguirre did not seem too shaken up by it, though, as he continued smiling before he casually walked across the field.

  • WHAT AGUIRRE SAID ABOUT BEING HIT

Aguirre continued smiling and refused to dwell on the subject in his press conference after the game, either, as he told reporters: "They deserved to win, they were better than us in areas, I've got nothing left but to congratulate them, and well, to try to lift my team's spirit. The other thing, there's no point in even mentioning it because well it's football, I'm not one to complain."

Honduras boss Reinaldo Rueda said: "I’m sad for what happened at the end of the match, because he is a human being. I want to apologise to the Mexican people and to Aguirre, this cannot happen."
