'Not unless there's a big shift at U.S. Soccer' - Canada boss Jesse Marsch has 'no interest' in USMNT job

USMNT boss Gregg Berhalter was dismissed on Wednesday following the team's stunning Copa America group stage exit. Jesse Marsch, who has led Canada to Saturday night's third-place game against Uruguay, was previously a candidate for the U.S. coaching job and has since criticized how U.S. Soccer handled the initial hiring process.

With the USMNT position now vacant again, Marsch says he has no interest in considering leaving his role with Canada to replace Berhalter, especially if nothing has changed with U.S. Soccer.

"I'm not leaving this job, I have no interest in the U.S. job," Marsch said on Friday. "And to be fair, unless there's a big shift in the organization, I don't think that I'll ever have any interest in that job in the future. I'm really happy here, I couldn't be happier actually in terms of what it's like to work with the leaders in this organization and what it's like to work with this team."

The U.S. Soccer role has been linked with several candidates since Berhalter's exit, chief among them Jurgen Klopp. The ex-Liverpool boss, though, reportedly turned down the federation's advances when contacted about the opportunity.

Steve Cherundolo, the LAFC head coach, has also been linked. He didn't outright admit to it, though, but he did little to ease expectations by simply saying his focus was on his current job at the moment when asked about a USMNT role.

Marsch and Canada may have fallen to Argentina in their Copa Ameria semifinal, but their tournament isn't over just yet. They'll face Uruguay in the third-place game in Charlotte on Saturday.

The U.S., meanwhile, will look to have a coach in place by September when they, coincidentally, face Marsch and Canada in one of their two upcoming friendlies.
