Trinity Rodman and Sophia Smith in elite company! Duo among six USWNT stars nominated for EA FC Team of the Year alongside World Cup winners Alexis Putellas and Aitana Bonmati

EA FC 24 announced that voting began Monday afternoon, and for the first time ever, there will be a Women's Team of the Year alongside the men's team. Available for selection is a plethora of players, but four others along with Smith and Rodman found themselves nominated for the United States. Highlighting the group is Naomi Girma, followed by NWSL champions Lynn Williams and Jenna Nighswonger with up-and-coming midfielder Sam Coffey in the group as well.

Smith and Rodman have two of the highest-rated U.S. women's cards in the game, and deservedly find themselves among the voters. However, it was a down year for the USWNT overall, after crashing out of the World Cup in stunning fashion. Nighswonger and William's NWSL Championship - and a phenomenal regular season campaign with the Bats - sees them through, while Coffey broke through with the Thorns and earned her first cap in 2023. Girma was the USA's best defender in New Zealand, and helped lead San Diego into the NWSL playoffs.

Alex Morgan is the highest-rated USWNT card in the game at 89 overall - however - a down 2023 year sees the veteran ignored for the accolade this year.

The soccer video game will announce the winners of the respective Team of the Year squads towards the end of the month, but voting opened Monday. If a USWNT player finds herself represented in the final XI, she will be the first-ever to be so.
