Tottenham submit improved €70m Nico Paz transfer bid as Como star makes final decision on his future

Tottenham have reportedly submitted an improved transfer bid worth €70m (£61m/$82m) for Como star Nico Paz, but the Serie A side have rejected the offer. Spurs have made Paz their primary target after missing out on Eberechi Eze to arch-rivals Arsenal. However, Paz wants to stay at Como this season before returning to Real Madrid, who have a buy-back option on the Argentine.

  • WHAT HAPPENED?

    According to Fabrizio Romano, Spurs saw their second transfer bid for Paz rejected on Sunday evening. The Premier League club's initial bid worth €40 million (£34.6m) was also knocked back by Como, who are determined to keep hold of the Argentine midfielder for at least one more season.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

    The report adds that Paz wants to stay at Como this season, but sees his long-term future at his boyhood club Real Madrid. Los Blancos inserted a clause in the deal for Paz to join Como last year that would have allowed them to match any offer that came the Italian club's way this summer. The Spanish giants also have a €10m buy-back clause on Paz that becomes active in 2026, which they are planning to trigger before compensating Como further in the future.

    Tottenham are desperate to sign a quality playmaker in this transfer window after James Maddison picked up an ACL injury. Thomas Frank will now have to look elsewhere and act swiftly to complete another transfer before the summer window closes on September 1. Spurs are due back in action against Bournemouth on August 30 in the Premier League.
