'Ruben Amorim will bring success back' - Ryan Giggs insists under-fire Man Utd boss needs 'three or four transfer windows' to undo damage done by 'ten years of bad decisions'

Giggs appears confident that Amorim is a good enough coach to get the best out of players in a correctly assembled squad, rather than the disjointed one he has inherited since getting the job in November. But the legendary former United winger suggests that consistent mistakes made over a prolonged period will need time to overcome as he called for INEOS and Sir Jim Ratcliffe to be patient with Amorim.

Amorim has taken charge of 20 games since starting work during the November international break. But Unted went on to endure a dreadful December, aside from victory over Manchester City, and have experienced other frustrating setbacks that have left them languishing 13th in the Premier League table. United have won four of their last five games in all competitions, including Friday night's dramatic FA Cup triumph over Leicester, but only one of those has been in a league setting.

"Like any business, recruitment needs to be right and hasn't been for the last ten years. We've just made poor decision after poor decision. Now it's whether Ruben gets the players he needs, the support he needs - the time," Giggs said, as per The Sun.

"We're in a bad place at the moment but, first of all, I have to say I actually really like the manager. Given a chance and given time, Amorim will bring success back. If we get the right players in and the manager gets time, we will be okay. But at the moment, we are miles off it. We’re nowhere near - a long, long way behind - but it can soon turn around. We've tried giving managers a little bit of time but now he needs a bit longer - three or four transfer windows, I think."

Consistency doesn't look like it will come without major changes, with recent wins still rather unconvincing. Manchester United need to limp through to the end of the season before properly taking stock of everything. Amorim still hasn't had enough opportunity to work on his tactical system, which he will finally get in pre-season, nor does he have players geared towards making that system tick as it should. United are due back in Premier League action away at Tottenham on February 16.
