Revealed: Paul Mullin's brothers won 'several thousands of pounds each' after making clever 200-1 bets on Wrexham striker

Those bets were made after Mullin brought a difficult spell at Tranmere Rovers to a close. Having impressed on loan at Cambridge United in League Two, a permanent transfer was completed in the summer of 2020. The confident frontman always knew that he would get goals when given a regular run of games, and proved as much when claiming the top scorer prize in 2020-21 – finding the target on a record-breaking 32 occasions.

Mullin’s brothers benefited considerably from those efforts, with the 29-year-old striker saying his new autobiography ‘My Wrexham Story’: “The day I left to go to Cambridge, I knew I was going to finish top scorer in the league. My brothers knew it too. They put bets on me at 200–1 and won several grand each! That was purely off the fact that we all knew I had the ability; that I had those goals in me. We all knew that if I was given the opportunity it would happen. What they didn’t bet on was that I’d have a stand named after me at the Abbey Stadium for part of the season!”

Mullin left Cambridge in 2021 to move closer to his Merseyside roots, with Wrexham co-owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney luring him to SToK Racecourse. He was always going to be too good for the National League, and proved as much when hitting 47 goals across all competitions last season.

A pre-season injury delayed Mullin’s start to the 2023-24 campaign, but he is up to nine goals for the season – with a hat-trick recorded last time out – and the plan is to earn a second visit to Las Vegas next summer after already seeing Reynolds and McElhenney bankroll one promotion-winning party in Sin City.
